I'm completely on board with anyone who said he left a pile of poop in Hextall's lap. He did without question. I've liked a good deal of what Hextall has done. He's made some glaring mistakes that impede the process. No GM is mistake proof. I'd give Hextall a solid B+ when it comes to the draft. Free agency, and trades is where he's been pretty bad so far. - PLindbergh31
We are definitely on the same page. For what he did in Free agency he would have been better off doing nothing in the long term. I've been groaning through the last few summers.
His trades seem to come with a catch this season. At first they look good and them I'm like ... well...
I agree it would be totally viewed differently if they had won in 2010.
Playing devils advocate say the Flyers lose that shootout to the Rags in game 82, then what is Holmgren's legacy? - PLindbergh31
Say they get Patrick Kane and not JVR??????
So many things could have changed the future of this club.

Was the guy you have spent the last 5 days complaining about trading included in that pile of poop or...?

Frodo is the worst. Let's see what Frodo does:
1) Puts on the ring after a wizard explicitly tells him not to, and gets stabbed. Aragorn, Glorfindel, Gandalf, and Elrond had to combine their powers to save him.
2) Decides he's going to Mount Doom alone even though he doesn't know the way, until Sam follows him.
3) Gets Boromir killed while everyone goes looking for him.
4) Decides to trust a guy who tried to eat his uncle and wants to murder him as his guide after leaving honorable people who actually knew the way.
5) Gets tricked by said cannibal and stung/trapped by a spider. His servant, who he had tried to dismiss, ends up having the hindsight to remove the ring before...
6) He is taken captive by orcs working for the the evil deity that wants the ring, again being rescued by his servant (the only one in the trilogy who willingly gave up possession of the ring)
7) He decides, at the end of the journey, that he can't make it, and has to be helped physically by his servant.
8) With the chance to throw it in, he caves and decides to give up.
9) After having someone else do the job for him, and with the volcano erupting, he gives up (again) until Sam urges him onward to a safer location.

Sam was one of the guys who wanted to light a fire on top of Weathertop.

I just can't take any of The Lord of The Rings seriously after seeing Clerks II
Dream on buddy buy yes there is always hope. Schenn was not a prospect and until I see results from all these hot prospects I am not buying it. Another major screw up I forgot to mention was the Bryzgalov contract, we all know how that ended. No one team in the nhl has made this many screw-ups, albeit they were trying hard to win. Just did not work out. - joegreif17

Yep. People see the two first round picks for Schenn and assume it a good trade.
I know the Flyers have had a good amount of success with late first round picks, but a ton of guys drafted in the 25 range never become NHL regulars. I think to be fair in the short term it's a step back, going forward it's a wait and see.

It may also be a way to try and secure another high end pick. Along with leaving the goaltending iffy.
I know , it actually pained me to type that originally..LOL! - opeth_pa
I don't hate the Flyers as much as you think I do. When I was young I was optimistic about most everything they did. That changed in 2000. When Lindros got knocked out of the game 7 vs. the Devils it made me bitter. I knew the series was over that instant. The Flyers would have beaten that Stars team in the Finals that year. Anyway from that point until now I've looked at it as nothing will work out, and for the most part it hasn't.

If he can just flip Lethera at some point so we have the two picks and the roster spot and not Lethera and his two year contract than I'll feel better about it.
I could see where maybe they thought Schenn was benefiting too much from the PP for his production and that they might be better off moving him before his numbers declined especially when St. Louis came calling. I can see a dramatic drop in his production if Patrick or Lindblom moved on to the first PP unit.
I'm not terribly upset to see Schenn go. I never thought his even strength play was where it should have been given the talent he sometimes flashes.

The only issue I really had / have with the Schenn trade... and I'm not even sure this matters considering it was STL reaching out to us... but if we were going to trade Schenn, why didn't we just trade him last draft to try to a) move up or b) acquire an additional 1st rounder with how strong last year's class was. But that's just shoulda, coulda, woulda.

I think his whole time with the club they have tried to be patient that he would continue to grow. Eventually accepted that he is what he is?
I expect some good numbers from him next year for who he will play with, did find it weird he could never get it going with G.
He should have claimed more goalies anyway. Several teams are looking for at least 1 goalie. I think he'd have a much easier time moving two of Pickard, Ullmark, and Grubauer than moving two of Sbisa, Garrison, and Emelin. - mochoson
I agree. Mrazek should have been claimed for sure.

I find it amusing that people who say Hextall inherited a mess, also say Holmgren was a good GM. Seems contradictory to me. Oh well.... company stooges gonna stooge. - PLindbergh31
I don't know why I keep responding but here it goes....my thoughts on Holmgren not that you care is that he started out very well. he took a poop mess left by a checked out Bob Clarke and rebuilt it pretty quickly. loved his initial moves. then in my opinion he went overboard trying to build on 2010 and made some really bad moves that screwed the team. Based on that I call Holmgren's tenure as being ok.
